My family has always valued eating dinner together, and for as long as I remember my family has gone out to eat on Wednesdays evenings. My parents traditionally had choir practice on Wednesday nights, thus my mom didn't have time to cook and we ventured together to a local restaurant. The four members of my family took turns picking where went went each week, so I got to choose every fourth week.

This is another example of the juxtaposition of independence and family. While I had the freedom to choose where I wanted to eat (usually Ci Ci's pizza), I was still surrounded by my family. It seems that this balance, which has always been present in my life, is constantly struggling to reach equilibrium - the perfect balance of independence and community.
