Literature, ethnomusicology, philosophy, and rhetoric may seem like disparate areas of study and thought, but their combination is what will allow Gut Musicology an insight into the power of music. The main idea, the invention, that these areas have in common are their ability to glean something new and unseen from things we encounter in life, teasing out the intricacies not available through casual pondering.

In my current career, music journalism, I can begin to approach the power of music, but I am constrained by the clunky language and my limited insight into what makes the music truly special. But, by including the study of ethnomusicology - to learn more about how music spans cultures - and philosophy - to learn what inherent things inside of us cause us to comprehend and enjoy certain things.

Only through these kinds of combinations, these inventions, can we reach levels that each discipline isn't able to reach on its own. We must try new techniques in order to get new results and expand our understanding and ability to share ideas.
