Through my memory work, I have recognized 4 major changes in myself that have taken place over time. Instead of a grid of events, I noticed that all of the distinct parts of my life have transpired in a linear fashion, with each aspect relating to, and helping the others develop more fully. These four parts making the cohesive whole mirror the four aspects of Gut Musicology. This sort of linear journey is embodied in the philosophy (one of the 4 strands of Gut Musicolgy) of René Descartes. In his Meditations of First Philosophy, Descartes puts forth the notion that to find any sort of truth in the world one must give up everything from his childhood. Only by starting with a blank slate and discovering everything new again can we realizes what is real about ourselves and the world. This is similar to what Joyce did, but we know that we must acknowledge that past experience will continue to effect us, even if it is unconsciously so.

The cognitive mapping of these images directly merges with the desire to always advance my understanding of the world around me. As I have grown, I have branched out and become more independent, while searching for truth in the things around me. I go down this path slowly, with much thought, as my Decision Scene describes.
